Where olim lose money in Israel
Almost every English speaker we meet is losing money in at least one of these places — not through any mistake, but because the default option was accepted without anyone explaining the alternative:
- Mortgage life insurance bought at the bank. The bank requires the cover, then sells it to you at its own price. This is consistently the single most expensive default in the Israeli system.
- Pension management fees left at the maximum. Fees are negotiable in Israel. Most people never negotiate them, and the difference compounds over decades.
- Dormant accounts from previous employers. Change jobs a few times and money is left behind in funds you have forgotten. These are unclaimed funds — they are still yours, and they can be located.
- Duplicate health cover. Paying for a private policy that overlaps with what your kupat cholim supplementary plan already provides.
- No will, or a foreign will. A will drafted abroad may not operate cleanly over Israeli assets.

How the three-layer system works, what your employer must pay, and what to do with pensions you left abroad.
Mortgage Life Insurance →Why the bank's policy is the expensive one, and how a single comparison typically reduces the premium substantially.
Health Insurance in Israel →Kupat cholim vs supplementary vs private — what each layer actually covers, and where people pay twice.
Making a Will in Israel →Israeli wills, enduring power of attorney, and why a foreign will may not be enough for Israeli assets.
Travel Insurance with Pre-Existing Conditions →Cover that accepts active medical conditions, plus cancel-for-any-reason. Priced online in seconds.
Retirement & Withdrawing Funds →Tax fixation (kibbua zchuyot), early retirement, and the decisions that are irreversible once made.
Common questions
Can I get insurance and pension advice in Israel in English?
Yes. All consultations, document reviews and policy comparisons can be conducted in English. The filings themselves are submitted in Hebrew to the Israeli insurers and pension funds on your behalf, which is a normal part of the service.
Do I need to speak Hebrew to manage my Israeli pension?
No. The statements and correspondence arrive in Hebrew, but a licensed advisor can read them, explain them in English and act for you. What you actually need is someone who can translate the system, not just the words.
How much does an initial review cost?
A full review of your existing pension and insurance portfolio is provided at no cost and with no obligation. You receive a written picture of what you hold, what overlaps, what you pay in management fees, and whether there are unclaimed funds in dormant accounts from previous employers.
Are you licensed, or a broker for one company?
Elephant Finance Group holds Israeli pension and insurance licences and works across all the major Israeli insurers rather than a single provider. The group also includes a law office, which is why wills, enduring powers of attorney and rights realisation are handled in-house.
I still have a pension or retirement account abroad. Does that matter?
It can matter a great deal — for tax treatment, for beneficiary designations, and for how the two systems interact. It is one of the first things worth mapping properly rather than leaving in place by default.
